Perge, Aspendos and Side in one day
Three ancient cities east of Antalya, one long day: how to plan it so you enjoy it rather than just tick it off.

In short: yes, Perge, Aspendos and Side can be seen in one day from Antalya because they lie along the same road east of the city. Perge is about 17 km from the centre in Aksu, Aspendos is in Serik, and Side is on the coast in Manavgat. Plan for a full day, start early, and expect about one to two hours at each site.
The route
| Stop | Where · what to see · time |
|---|---|
| 1. Perge | Aksu, about 17 km east of Antalya · colonnaded street, theatre, stadium · 1.5–2 hours |
| 2. Aspendos | Serik · Roman theatre, aqueduct · about 1 hour |
| 3. Side | Manavgat · temple ruins by the sea, theatre, old town · 2 hours and dinner |
This order works because you see the sites with the least shade in the morning and finish by the sea in Side, where the sunset over the temple ruins is a fine way to end the day.
Perge: the city of columns
Perge was one of the leading cities of ancient Pamphylia. Its long colonnaded street, with a water channel down the middle, is the highlight; the theatre and stadium are nearby. Many of the statues found here are displayed in Antalya Museum, which is worth a visit on another day if you enjoy what you see. The site is large and open, so walk it in the morning before the heat builds.
Aspendos: the theatre that still stands
The Roman theatre at Aspendos is one of the best-preserved ancient theatres anywhere. It was built in the 2nd century AD, during the reign of Marcus Aurelius, and its stage building still stands to its full height. Sources give different capacities, from around 7,000 to 15,000 spectators; either way it is huge, and the acoustics are remarkable. Stand in the upper rows while someone speaks softly on the stage. On the way, look for the arches of the Roman aqueduct across the plain.
The official visitor information lists winter hours (1 November–30 April) of 08:00–17:00, with the ticket office closing half an hour earlier. Check current hours and fees before you go.
Side: ruins by the sea
Side is different: an ancient city that is also a living resort town. The theatre, the colonnaded street and the temple ruins at the tip of the peninsula sit among restaurants and shops. Arrive in the afternoon, walk to the temple ruins by the water and stay for dinner. If you are staying in Side, you can reverse the route and finish in Perge.
Is one day too much?
It is a long day but a manageable one if you start early and don't try to see everything at every site. If you love archaeology, split it over two days: Perge with Antalya Museum on one day, Aspendos and Side on another. With young children, choose two sites rather than three.
Guided tour or on your own?
On your own with a rental car you choose your pace. A guided tour adds hotel pick-up and a guide who brings the ruins to life; at Perge in particular, a good guide makes a big difference. A private car and driver is a middle path for families or small groups.
What to bring
- A hat, sunscreen and plenty of water: there is little shade at Perge and Aspendos.
- Comfortable shoes with grip for uneven stone.
- Cash and a card for tickets and snacks.
- A light layer for the evening in Side outside summer.
